Useful Data: Metadata for Context and Reuse in a Multidisciplinary, Multipurpose Repository
Last modified: 2014-01-07
Abstract
This presentation describes the metadata for research data in RUcore, the Rutgers University community repository. The metadata used is an application profile of MODS (Metadata Object Description Schema) a general purpose metadata schema. An innovative event subschema is used to document events in the lifecycle of research data and to relate associated research objects (data, lab notes, instrumentation, etc.) together. The slides show how controlled vocabularies and events are used to document complex research data in ways that are useful to the intended scholarly community and to broader audiences.
