Visa

Visa requirements for entry into Brazil vary depending upon nationality. Please inquire at the Brazilian consulate nearest your home for information on costs, processing time and precise requirements. Apply for a Tourism Visa. Please note that Visa applications can take up to one month to process.

Brazil requires U.S. citizens to carry a valid U.S. passport and Visa when traveling to Brazil for any purpose. You must obtain your Brazilian visa in advance from the Brazilian Embassy or consulate nearest to your place of residence in the United States. Visas cannot be obtained at the airport, and immigration authorities will refuse entry into Brazil to anyone not possessing a valid Visa. The U.S. government cannot assist you if you arrive in Brazil without proper documentation. For unofficial general information about Brazilian Visa requirements, see « Wikipedia ».

U.S. citizens must obtain an invitation or enrollment letter to present when applying for a Tourist Visa to attend a conference in Brazil.

To obtain an invitation or enrollment letter, please contact Viviane Zunckeller at Eventus: « [email protected] ». Please cc your email to Flávia Maria Bastos, « [email protected] » and Mariana Curado Malta, « [email protected] ».

Include in your email the following information:

  • Your legal (given) name as it appears on your passport;
  • Your Institution/Professional address;
  • Your source of funding to attend the conference;
  • City of your local Brazilian embassy (if available).

Please note that it is the DC-2015 delegate's responsibility to arrange and pay for their own Visas. Letters of invitation can only be provided once a participant has registered and paid in full.

Time

Sao Paulo is located at -3:00 GMT

Health

It is highly recommended to contract a travel health insurance plan for the duration of your stay, as hospital fees can be high and public services may be slow.

For up to date information on health related questions about your trip to Brazil please consult the following page: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/brazil.htm or a similar site in your home country.

Electric Power & Voltage

The electrical power in Maresias is 220V @ 60 Hz. . Brazil has recently adopted a new type of socket, so an adapter may be necessary for charging your electronic gadgets.

Climate

Brazil's vast territories, the different geographical areas, altitudes and air masses result in a wide variety of climates. September is the end of autumn.

Language

Portuguese is related to Spanish, French, Italian, Romanian and others, but its vocabulary is influenced by Arabic (reminiscent of the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula in the Middle Ages) and, in the case of Brazilian Portuguese, by African and Indian languages.

Tax & Tipping

All local taxes are included in the price advertised in store windows or shown on bills. Tips in restaurants are often indicated in your bill, usually as a voluntary 10% charge over the total bill.
